Mild Steel Strip is defined by their carbon content which governs both their basic mechanical properties of hardness and tensile strength and their ability to develop enhanced properties within various processes such as cold forming or heat treatment. Mild Steel Strip is low carbon variants with carbon levels of up to 0.12% as defined in BS 1449: part 1 1991, with such grades as CS1, CS2, CS3 and CS4. Such Mild Steel Strip has relatively low tensile strength but good ductility levels which facilitate the production of complicated component shapes where required and even allowing deep pressing processes to be carried out. These can be supplied in thickness’s of between 0.10mm and 7.00mm, and widths of between 4.00mm and 650mm Cold-rolled mild steel for forming and deep drawing is available in a range of qualities, each designed for particular applications.

Mild Steel Information: Many of the everyday objects that are created of steel are made using mild steel, including automobile chassis, motorcycle frames, and most cookware. Due to its poor corrosion-resistance, it must be painted or otherwise protected and sealed in order to prevent rust from damaging it. A light coat of oil or grease is able to seal this steel and aid in rust control. Unlike high-carbon steel, mild steel is easily welded. The properties of the steel allow the electrical current to travel through the metal without distorting the makeup of the material. Some types of high-carbon steel, such as stainless steel, require special techniques in order to properly weld the material. Being less brittle than high-carbon steels, the mild variant is able to flex and give in construction projects where a higher-carbon version could simply break.
